into the sporous grove

Some have estimated that fungi is responsible for most of the carbon sequestration in northern forests. We have been trying out a variety of mushroom cultivation techniques for the past year, and are really excited about the potentials for integrating mushroom growing practices into landscape and gardening systems for both foraging and soil health. Shown here are shiitake mushrooms growing on inoculated oak logs. Once the mycelium has fully colonized in the logs, they can fruit for nearly five years with proper care, and can be kept in shady spot outside. As amateur mushroom growers we welcome tips from other fungi gardeners out there!

We bought our shiitake logs from @s.c.specialties, thanks!
